Maiyet Small Sophie Shoulder

maiyet_small-sophie-shoulderBeautiful from whichever angle you choose to look at it is the Maiyet Small Sophie Shoulder, a new-to-the-blog-brand that I’ve been quietly following lately. Founded in 2011, it’s a brand that’s focused on delivering luxury and practising social consciousness, finding ways to elevate those below the poverty line by employing those with highly specialised and refined craftsmanship from countries like India to Kenya and Peru.

And just because it’s made by craftspeople in places where they sell more tourist souvenirs than anything else, it doesn’t mean it has to look kitschy. Take the Small Sophie Shoulder, for instance. Measuring 20 cm by 15 cm, the braided calf hair bag comes trimmed with leather and is accented by Maiyet’s signature toggle clasp in aged gold-tone hardware. Featuring a removable shoulder sling and lined with suede for the extra touch of luxury, it is now available via Net-A-Porter where it is selling forGBP1180.

A small price to pay for something that does good, and looks pretty good too.

maiyet_amazonia-clutchBefore I go, here’s another bag you should have a look at, the Amazonia Clutch. Fierce, no?

The Classic: Maiyet Sia Nautical Shopper

Maiyet Sia Shopper

Who doesn’t love a big roomy shopper? It truly is a must-have for every collection. Even if you don’t use it for anything other than a shopping tote, a nice shopper is definitely worth the investment. You want something sturdy, yet flexible enough to accommodate a variety of items. Thin, but comfortable straps are also a must. As long as your shopper has these features, nothing else matters all that much. Well, okay, leather certainly doesn’t hurt! With so many lovely potentials out there, it is difficult to pick the perfect piece. When I saw the Maiyet Sia Shopper, however, I just knew that this one was special!

Look at this shopper and tell me what you see? There is no mistaking it for what it is. Yet, it also has a degree of uniqueness to it. Instead of the traditional four cornered bag, this piece has been turned 45 degrees. This means that a single shoulder strap straddles a corner of the bag. The result is more of a diamond shape top opening, rather than a square or rectangle. This also puts the contrasting white edge front and center for all the world to see. I love the overall look it gives this shopper, which is somewhat nautical in away. It would be perfect for spring when warmer weather demands nautical-inspired pieces.
